TOUR’22 Stage 15: Jasper Jumps to Win in Carcassonne · No GC Change

[ad_1]

Tour Stage 15 Report: Another crazy day in the Tour de France. The heat played a big part, but crashes caused the main problems. At the end of the stage it came down to a very ragged sprint with no team in control. Jasper Philipsen pushed his wheel over the line just ahead of Wout van Aert and Mads Pedersen. No change on the GC, but bad news for Jumbo-Visma as they lost Primoz Roglič before the stage and Steven Kruijswijk during the stage.

Jasper Philipsen’s first Tour stage win

Jasper Philipsen won the fifteenth stage of the 2022 Tour de France. After a sweltering and long stage between Rodez and Carcassonne, the Alpecin-Deceuninck sprinter beat Wout van Aert and Mads Pedersen. There was a lot of nervousness during the stage, resulting in a crash of yellow jersey Jonas Vingegaard and the retirement of Steven Kruijswijk.

Tour boss, Christian Prudhomme: “The road to Carcassonne is often hilly and the ups and downs that lead to it can favour breakaways. But on this occasion, the route has been designed to suit the sprinters’ teams. That’s provided that they work hard to control the day’s attackers, who still might manage to produce a surprise.”

Stage winner, Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck): “It’s unbelievable. I’ve tried so many times… It worked out today. I thought Wout van Aert would be coming from behind. I got boxed in a bit before the final corner. I knew from last year that the finishing line would not come long after the last curve. It’s good that I could pass Mads [Pedersen]. It’s been a massive search for the victory at the Tour de France. I’m just proud that we can finally finish it off at stage 15 with the team. Everybody continued to believe that it was possible. I knew I had good legs. We just had to wait for the right moment and the right opportunity, and today was the day.”
