As a longtime lover of custom bikes, PEZ fan Greg from Pennsylvania couldn’t help but get another custom rig when it came time to get a new bike, a Kelly Bedford Custom in a very sharp looking green paint job with Sram Red 22 and Mavic Cosmic wheels.
Name: Greg Marti
Location: Pennsburg, Pennsylvania US
Bike: Kelly Bedford Customs
Groups: SRAM Red 22
Wheels: Mavic Carbone 40 Elite
Pedals: Shimano Ultegra
Saddle: Ritchey Contrail
Weight: 16.5lbs (7.5kgs)
When did you buy it?
Ordered it in September 2015 and got it December 2016
What made you choose this bike?
Having ridden custom frames for years, I really respect and love the work of handmade builders. With age and injury, my other frames no longer fit so I decided to get a fit at Fitwerx in Waitsfield Vermont. From there, the talk about a new frame started. I knew of Bedford from his days at Serotta and both designing and building some very famous bikes and lugs.
What modifications/additions have you done?
None! I ordered it exactly how I wanted it so no reason to change anything yet.
What components are you running?
SRAM Red. I just really like the SRAM stuff for durability, weight and ergonomics.
How many miles/kilometers do you do a year?
Around 10k miles. Maybe more. I took three years off the bike from 2010-2013 then started again, so building back up to some masters racing.
What do you love about this bike?
The fit for my quirky body. The color and the ride are amazing. Also, supporting builders like Bedford means a great deal to me. Custom bikes are works of art, love, and labor and cost the same or slightly more than big production bikes. So, custom makes sense on many levels.
Favorite riding area?
Vermont. Northwest Connecticut. Or the Lehigh Valley near the velodrome at Trexlertown Pennsylvania.
Favorite riding experience on your bike?
Leaving at 6am for a 2 hour ride in the Berkshire mountains and having such a good day that it turned into an unplanned century.
Future upgrades?
Dura-Ace pedals.
Last words?
Riding is my therapy. Riding on a custom built frame made by a person you can see and talk to is the ultimate experience. Knowing this bike is truly mine means a great deal.
