The aerodynamic lines and engineered ventilation system of Crit provide maximum performance. And the adjustable arm and nose pieces ensure that Crit fits you securely.

Just as you can turn down the volume on your music player, wearing sunglasses turns down the brightness of your environment, but your music player doesn’t stop there! It allows you to adjust the bass and treble of what you hear to a more pleasing level. Imagine if your sunglasses could do that with what you see!

tifosi

Enliven lenses do just that! Color Capture technology fine tunes the wavelengths of light that matter most; making greens, blues, and reds pop with definition. And the Fototec darkens in sunlight.

  • Frame: Light & Durable Grilamid TR-90
  • Lens: Enliven Golf Fototec – Shatterproof polycarbonate lens that gets darker as the day grows brighter and enhances greens, blues and reds
  • Features: Vented half frame, fully adjustable nose and ear pads, hydrophilic rubber ear and nose pads that increase grip the more you sweat
  • Fit: Medium-Large
  • Weight: 31 grams
  • Included: Zippered hardshell case and microfiber cleaning bag

Chuck Peña PEZ sez:  PEZ readers will know that I’m a bit of a Tifosi fanboy (I own several pairs), but are probably wondering “Why a pair of golf sunglasses?” Well, even though these are billed as golf sunglasses, they are more than up to the task of doing double duty as cycling sunglasses. They certainly wouldn’t look out of place on the display rack alongside other cycling sunglasses at your local bike store.

tifosi

Style-wise, the Crit isn’t the latest rage of the oversized, ski google-like look. Think “sleeker.” More like Wesley Snipes in Blade (OK, I’m dating myself). And the lens isn’t mirrored. But if you don’t need to emulate Mathieu van Der Poel, you’ll still look the part on the bike. Plus I think there’s something to be said about setting yourself apart from the crowd and not looking like everyone else on your next group ride.

tifosi
Venting to help keep the lenses from fogging up

But functionality was the reason I got the Crit Enliven Golf Fototec. I do a fair amount of riding that takes me in and out of bright sunlight into more shaded areas. A “dark” lens is fine in bright sunlight but can make it difficult to pick things out in the shade. The Fototec is great at making the lens darker or lighter depending on light conditions. The tint isn’t quite as dark as a dedicated tinted lens, but dark enough for my eyes under clear blue skies and bright sunlight. And while it doesn’t go completely clear, it’s light enough for low light conditions (in a pinch, I could wear them at night in an urban environment with ambient street lighting and a light on my bike — but definitely not for night riding in pitch black in the middle of nowhere).

But it’s more than just the changing tint that makes the Crit Enliven Golf Fototec different. The Enliven feature helps make colors “pop” a little. Not to the point of distraction. More to the point of distinction.  In the shade, it provides a little more definition than regular sunglasses and makes it easier to pick out the road surface. Or more to the point, the imperfections in the road surface. I also found the Enliven provides enough contrast to work on cloudy/overcast days where I might otherwise swap lenses for a high contrast tint.

It’s worth noting that Tifosi makes a bike-specific Enliven lens with a red tint, but it’s not Fototec. I might have to try these too and see how they compare.

Finally, there’s this … I’m a golfer too. So the Crit Enliven Golf Fototec can do double-duty for me. If only they could help me with my golf game so I could hang with my daughter when we’re on the links. Fore!

Bravur Watches: Presenting the New La Corsa Rosa 2022 Edition
The Giro d’Italia has started, which also means that it’s soon time for the launch of this year’s edition of our La Corsa Rosa chronograph! La Corsa Rosa is a part of the Grand Tour chronograph series, drawing inspiration from the three Grand Tours, the biggest and most prestigious races in the world of cycling.

bravur

The 2022 La Corsa Rosa edition is characterized by the pink tricolor created by the sub dials. The pink accents, inspired by the pink leader’s jersey, is also found on the large second hand and the checker minute track.

To make the watch useful when riding we have opted for a 15 min sub dial, making it ideal for timing intervals. The La Corsa Rosa comes on a black FKM rubber strap, making it comfortable to wear both on and off the bike.

bravur

La Corsa Rosa is full of subtle cycling references, such as the tarmac pattern at the center of the dial, and “race number” 13 turned upside down, as tradition dictates.

The watch has a neat 38,2 mm diameter with a black inlay on the bezel, framing the dial. Through the sapphire case back one can admire the beautifully decorated movement from Sellita, caliber SW511. The rhodium plated movement features Côte de Genéve and perlé decoration, as well as blue screws.

Every watch is hand built and tested in Båstad, Sweden, a process that takes approximately two weeks. La Corsa Rosa is limited to 50 watches.

The 2022 edition of La Corsa Rosa is available at bravurwatches.com from May 16, priced $2,550/SEK 25 900.

De Marchi: The Memory of Heroic Cycling, The Evolution of Modern Cycling Apparel
One of the most ancient companies in the world specialized in cycling apparel is launching its new website: it thus tells the epic story of cycling through the patterns of its yarns.

The replicas of the jerseys of the great cyclists of the past go hand in hand with modernized versions. The two lines, Heritage and Performance, preserve the secrets of the cycling of the past and pass them on to the cyclists of the modern day.

The charm of heroic cycling, the love for oneís bike, clothing and accessories used by the champions of the past wins over many bike lovers around the world.

One of the main representatives of this – owing to the mark it has left over the years and to the values it brings back in its clothing lines – is the Italian brand De Marchi.

de marchi
Emilio De Marchi and Bobet in Sanremo 1951

De Marchi was founded in 1946 and is one of the oldest companies in the world that is solely specialized in cycling apparel. For over 75 years, under the same ownership, it has made an unparalleled contribution to the evolution of cycling apparel. It has participated in the very definition of modern cycling aesthetic and has introduced many of the innovations that forever changed this sport.

de marchi

Emilio De Marchi founded the ‘Maglificio Sportivo De Marchi’ by making clothing in wool for cyclists, which were soon noticed by the cycling teams of the time. He was friends with many cycling legends and worked with the first professional cycling teams. He indeed contributed to the creation of a fully-fledged clothing standard for cyclists who, before then, wore generic sports clothing.

de marche

De Marchi jerseys soon became the choice of champions such as Bottecchia, Magni, Coppi, Bartali and Bobet. Bobet himself, exhausted after winning in the final sprint in the 1951 Milan-Sanremo, allegedly suggested that Emilio De Marchi start using zips, instead of buttons, for his clothing. The rainbow jersey worn by Fausto Coppi for a year after his victory in Lugano in 1953 was also a De Marchi product, as was the clothing of Francesco Moser when he won Paris-Roubaix in the Seventies.

Today as Yesterday’s Evolution
Today, De Marchi makes two collections dedicated to road and gravel cycling, called Heritage and Performance, with their exceptional design, materials, fabrics and production techniques. Heritage was inspired by and reevokes the epic history of cycling with its iconic apparel, all handmade in Italy with traditional techniques. This line includes jerseys made by De Marchi in the 40s, 50s and 60s. These garments are mostly made of natural fiber, wool or cotton, with materials and production technologies of the past, in some cases even by using the original machinery.

This collection includes the replicas of the De Marchi jerseys worn by Merckx, Gimondi, Moser, Basso, Koblet, Adorni, by the Atala, Bottecchia, Cinelli, Filotex and Wilier Triestina teams and the national teams of Australia, Ireland, Switzerland, Italy, France and Belgium.

The Performance products have a more modern style. They were devised for performance oriented cyclist driven by the purest cycling passion: they feature elegance of the origins of cycling sports apparel, combined with the technological innovations that have honed its functionality.

Today’s De Marchi jerseys bring back a textured product, featuring structures and thickness, natural fibers, quality fabrics. These are garments that can afford the luxury of rejecting lycra and the flatness of sublimation printing because they are not influenced by the rules of sponsors and professionalism. The jerseys, indeed, are exclusively piece-dyed, with colors that have a certified origin and that comply with the strictest environmental rules.

The De Marchi products are available exclusively online on its new website at www.demarchi.com. It’s a completely revamped website that offers an entirely new, innovative and different dialogue with cyclists. Apart from the De Marchi shop, it includes unique accounts of Great Cycling, in-depth editorial writings, written by the best journalists from cycling journalism, as well as footage and texts on the history of bicycles through the patterns of the De Marchi jerseys.

Muc-Off Launches Stealth Tubeless Tag Holders

muc-off

Muc-Off, the global leaders in bicycle and motorcycle care and performance, is stoked to launch their latest bit of innovation: The Stealth Tubeless Tag Holder.

After the success of the brand’s Secure Tag Holder earlier this year, Muc-Off’s Product Team have designed a unique version that allows for an Apple AirTag® to be stowed inside the tyre and rim of a tubeless-compatible mountain or gravel bike. This makes for the ultimate covert tracking solution, completely hidden from bike thieves.

muc-off

Designed for use with an Apple AirTag® (not included), which is housed in a protective, 3-part silicone and rubber tubeless valve mount and supplied with a range of tubeless valve bases, so you can ensure an airtight seal is achieved against the rim when installing inside a tubeless tyre.

Also built-in to protect the rim and the AirTag® from high-impacts is a sacrificial stem which compresses and rebounds under extreme loads. Although the holder will absorb impacts, it is secure to the valve with a durable stem mount which allows sealant and air to flow through the valve as usual and will not rattle inside the rim and tyre.

muc-off

The Apple AirTag® itself works by allowing users to track any item from their phone, using the Find My® app. Once activated, any item to which the tag is connected appears on the radar within the app, so tracking the bike down is as simple as looking on the map.

According to a study from Direct Line Insurance*, between April and August 2020, UK bicycle thefts exceeded 110k, whilst bike registration specialists 529 Garage** reported that the US experiences over 2m bike thefts every year, that’s one every 30 seconds! With aggregated data from Worldometers*** suggesting that the number of new bikes produced in 2021 will exceed 150m by year end, there really has never been a more important time for riders to equip themselves with the added security this technology provides.

muc-off

“Technologies like the Apple Airtag® can be a great defense against would-be bike thieves. This is what led us to develop our Tag Holders, we wanted to give riders secure and thief-proof ways of fixing the tracker to their bikes. The newest offering – the Stealth Tubeless Tag Holder – is a completely unique undercover solution unlike anything we have seen on the market so far. We will continue to embrace emerging technologies to enhance every rider experience, as we continue our exciting program of innovation in the future.”Alex Trimnell, CEO at Muc-Off.

The Stealth Tubeless Tag Holder retails via Muc-Off distribution network and at muc-off.com for £14.99/€19.99/$19.99 and as part of a kit which includes a set of black Muc-Off 44mm Tubeless Valves for £34.99/€42.99/$44.99.
