Wahoo Open the Road Ep. 1 – Foundations
Trailblazers. Pioneers. Outcasts. We appreciate them because they show us new perspectives. They go against the grain, question the status quo, and lead by example. Team EF is different than most World Tour Teams because they think differently. They take the road less traveled.
Pro athletes are often put on a pedestal, surrounded by cameras, followed by reporters, revered for their performances. But at the end of the day, they are still human. In the “Open the Road” series we set out to show the characteristics, quirks, and distinctive moments that make these athletes human with the backdrop of performance.
A team is something larger than oneself. It’s a living, breathing, organism that is directly affected by everyone and things involved. When built correctly, it takes on a presence and personality of its own.
The goal of this series is to discover what makes teams EF Education – Easy Post and EF Education Tibco – SVB different.
Matt Beaudin, Marketing and Communications Director EF Education-EasyPost pro cycling team: “We’re excited about our partnerships with Wahoo, and specifically the new ‘Open the Road’ series, because it offers a true human context to racing and the high-performance environment our teams operate in every day. So often what people see or think of when they think about racing is the front of a bike race, someone holding their arms up at a finish line. But the depth of work that goes into that compressed moment is immense. Bt who that person is, their sense of humor, the person they are is often unknown. We want to work together to change that. We all love this sport and want to grow it. ‘Open the Road’ is a great step in that direction.”

Team Qhubeka Announces ‘Hand Up’ Apparel Collaboration with The Vandal
Team Qhubeka is delighted to announce our collaboration with acclaimed ‘urban and retro cycling gear’ outfitter – The Vandal – with the release of a fantastic range of items in the iconic ‘Hand Up’ collection.
For Team Qhubeka, the hand is symbolic, illustrating that bicycle beneficiaries are receiving a hand up in their lives, not a handout. ’Hand up’ symbolizes how we are all connected to one another. It expresses who we are and reinforces our purpose that bicycles change lives.
Through our partnership with the Qhubeka Charity we have contributed to the distribution of over 35,000 bicycles in communities in South Africa; and a portion of the proceeds from the sale of items in the ‘Hand Up’ collection will go directly to the Charity.
To view the full range, and immediately get your hands on some very special items of merchandise, please click here.
In addition, members of the newly created Team Qhubeka Community will receive up to a 15% discount on items in the ‘Hand Up’ range, as well as various other exclusive offerings.
Douglas Ryder – Founder – Team Qhubeka: “We are truly excited to launch our off bike ‘Hand Up’ wear with The Vandal. Not everybody wants to spend all day in lycra so now you can spend all day in something that fuels your passion and connects you to a purpose. We are all in need of a ‘Hand Up’ so get yours and put a smile on your face and those around you. It is 100% organic and the designs are just so cool.”
Wega Coffee Machines and Paolo Bettini: An Eroica Partnership
The two-time World Champion on the roads of the Nova Eroica Prosecco Hills alongside the Wega team.
Perhaps not everyone knows that the Eroica began in a coffee shop, in the small bar in Gaiole in Chianti where Giancarlo Brocci used to tell the chronicles of the cycling races to the elder people of the town who could no longer read the newspaper.
Cycling and coffee have this in common: they are first and foremost opportunities to meet and share.
This is precisely why the collaboration between Eroica and Wega continues, and after the presentation of the new customized WMini for Eroica, the historic Treviso-based company announces another great new development: the partnership with two-time World Champion (and Olympic Champion) Paolo Bettini.
On May 1st Bettini will be at the start of the Nova Eroica Prosecco Hills, ready to captain the team formed by the Wega staff.
Paolo Bettini’s relationship with heroic roads goes back a long way and has a history that is unique in its own way. In 2008 he took part in the second edition of the Monte Paschi Eroica, racing in the rainbow jersey and with the number 1 on his back, and he finished last. Paolo Bettini has not forgotten that experience, so much so that he has kept that bicycle with the signs of that difficult but memorable day still intact: he wanted to fix the dust of those roads forever, as one fixes the most cherished memories.
The bike will be on display this week at the company’s premises, and then it will be visible to everyone from Saturday at the Wega stand in the Nova Eroica Prosecco Hills village.
“For us at Wega it’s an honor to have a champion like Paolo Bettini on our team, and a great privilege to be able to display the bike he rode in the Eroica in 2008,” commented Paolo Nadalet, CEO of Wega. “Paolo and I met years ago at a stage of the Giro d’Italia. Today we’re very happy to announce an association that further strengthens our partnership with L’Eroica, that is, with a way of experiencing cycling made up of tradition and culture, just like coffee.”
“I’m grateful to Wega for inviting me to this wonderful event,” said Paolo Bettini, “as for every rider, the coffee break during a ride with friends or a training session has always been sacred to me; it is a moment of relaxation and sharing that goes perfectly with the pleasure of cycling. Moreover, these roads are very similar to those of my Tuscany, stunning hills that are a paradise for every cycling lover. I can’t wait to ride them together with all the enthusiasts who have registered for the Nova Eroica Prosecco Hills and, why not, stop at the refreshment points with them to enjoy a good coffee together.”
Muc-Off: Pause. Stop. Rewind.
Which UDOG Is The Best For You?
Elite-Level Racewear as Worn in the WorldTour Peloton by EF Education-TIBCO-SVB and EF Education-Easypost Now Available
Team 22 collections will be on sale from 27th April as early access to RCC members and from 28th April to the general public
Earlier this year, EF Education-EasyPost and EF Education-TIBCO-SVB unveiled their 2022 kits from their training camp in Girona, designed in collaboration with Rapha. Today, they become available to purchase on rapha.cc.
This season is the first time EF Education-TIBCO-SVB lined up wearing Rapha, as EF Education First join TIBCO Software, Inc. and Silicon Valley Bank as co-title sponsors of the longest running women’s team in North America.
From the beginning, the EF Education-EasyPost and EF Education-TIBCO-SVB franchises have been home to a special breed of bike racer, a roster full of pioneers and innovators, of script-ripping difference-makers. The charismatic men and women from both teams compete in a kit of the same design with a subtle color variation. The new design, executed through creative coding and image/pattern manipulation, is a modern interpretation of the Argyle pattern that has been a staple part of what is now EF Education-Easypost’s visual language for years.
Together, Rapha and EF Education-TIBCO-SVB and EF Education-EasyPost will continue to bring new perspectives to the sport of cycling. As well as wearing the kit in the WorldTour, riders from both teams will again take part in a number of events elsewhere in the cycle racing calendar, including Life Time Grand Prix. These will be shot by Rapha’s in-house media team for a new series of films celebrating cycling’s characters and stories.
What the EF Education-TIBCO-SVB riders say:
Tanja Erath: “Putting on my Rapha team kit makes me feel athletic and powerful, but also feminine and stylish. I could wear them all day, every day. It feels special, out of the norm and a bit rebellious. I feel like it suits our team identity well. A lot of us in the team took a non-traditional path into cycling and we all have our own stories of how we got here.”
Lizzy Banks: “This kit makes me smile, and feel proud to wear it. It seems fitting that now we are at the top, we have the most beautifully made kit. The pattern on the collar, the print on the bib straps, the Rapha design on the cuffs, no stone has been left unturned in making this kit look, and feel, absolutely world class. I’ve had so many more cheers and waves since I’ve been riding in pink, it always gives me that little extra boost. It’s those extra bits of detail that really make this kit so special, that and the quality of the materials.”
