Giro Launches New Eclipse Spherical Road Helmet
An entirely new design combines aerodynamic prowess with Spherical protection.

Giro Sport Design, the cycling world’s design leader, today announced the release of Eclipse™ Spherical, the fastest road helmet and coolest aero road helmet in the peloton. Built around the added protection of Spherical Technology™ powered by Mips®, the Eclipse makes zero compromises in cooling, comfort, or style as it introduces a new standard in speed. The Giro Eclipse helmet is available immediately from authorized Giro retailers and www.giro.com for $250 US MSRP / €259.95 / UK £239.99 / $429.99 AUS.

giro

“In our many years of testing hundreds of helmets, the new Eclipse is the fastest road helmet we’ve tested, yet we refused to compromise protection, heat management, or comfort,” says Giro’s Director of Product Development Ben Penner. “We spent countless hours in our in-house wind tunnel making it fast, but also used our unique Therminator heat-measuring head form to utilize the same airflow to keep the helmet super comfortable. In the end, we ended up with our fastest road helmet ever that cools better than most helmets lacking any aero advantages.”

giro

The Eclipse Spherical is a standout aero road helmet that brings our best technologies together in a light, compact form that’s ideal for road and gravel racing. At the heart of the Eclipse Spherical are its 14 Wind Tunnel™ vents. These vents pull air through the helmet to decrease aerodynamic drag and provide incredible cooling power that rivals most aggressively vented road helmets. Pair that with the sleek outer shell actively streamlines airflow to reduce drag across multiple wind angles and the Eclipse is the fastest road helmet Giro has made.

Inside the helmet, the ball-and-socket design of Spherical Technology is powered by the Mips® brain protection system, which allows the helmet’s outer EPS foam liner to rotate around the inner foam liner during a crash to help redirect impact forces away from the brain. Progressive Layering of both the inner and outer liners help to offer more comprehensive protection, too. Further, the patented Roc Loc® 5 Air fit system enhances stability and fit, and plush antimicrobial Ionic+™ padding helps absorb sweat and moisture while providing durable anti-microbial performance.

The Eclipse Spherical is available in five colorways and sizing small, medium and large.

Muc-Off Cleans Up at the Design & Innovation Awards 2022

muc-off

Muc-Off, the global leaders in bicycle and motorcycle care and performance, are proud to announce their award win at the Design & Innovation Awards 2022, taking victory with Punk Powder, the world’s first plastic-free bike cleaner.

The Design & Innovation Award has become a benchmark achievement for the bike industry’s highest-performing products, with a select group of international journalists, professional test riders, and industry experts spending more than 6000 hours during the testing process.

The award article read, “Punk Powder is easy to mix with water and its excellent cleaning power will leave your bikes shining like new, even after the filthiest mud fight. If that isn’t enough, the price point means it’s cheaper than the equivalent 2 x 1L bottles of cleaner. So Punk Powder isn’t just good for the environment, but also your wallet!” – Design & Innovation Award.

Muc-Off’s Punk Powder contains readily biodegradable ingredients and uses 92% less packaging than the equivalent two 1L bottles of Nano Tech Cleaner. The fast-dissolving powdered formula is ready for use within seconds of water being added. It can be mixed in an old Muc-Off plastic bottle or in one of their aluminum Bottles for Life, for all the eco-warriors out there.

Alex Trimnell, CEO at Muc-Off said, “We’re stoked to see the team’s hard work be recognized with this award win. Punk Powder was in development for a number of years, as we perfected the formula to ensure it delivered the legendary cleaning power Muc-Off is known for. We’re always pushing boundaries in innovation, particularly when it comes to sustainability, and this win is a celebration of that – It drives us to keep finding innovative ways to improve riders’ experiences!”

Back in 2020, Muc-Off launched their ambitious Project Green Initiative. The brand has since saved over 136 tonnes of plastic through packaging swaps and product innovations, and they’re fast closing in on their 200-tonne, end of year target.

Punk Powder is the result of the Muc-Off’s now engrained, ‘Project Green’ ethos. Whether it’s removing PTFEs from lubes, reducing plastic across the range, or developing a world first, sustainability is at the core of the business. Bagging a win at the Design & Innovation Awards 2022 is both testament to, and recognition of, Muc-Offs significant developments in this space.

  • Santini Presents the Paris-Nice Collection Inspired by the Sun and Colors of the Côte d’Azur
Santini has unveiled the Paris-Nice capsule collection, a vibrant homage to the Cote d’Azur city where the elite pro stage race finishes: from the Promenade des Anglais to the blue of the sea that laps the beaches of Nice. An elegant, sophisticated look!

    santini

Paris-Nice stage race once again cuts vertically across France between March 6th and 13th this year. As always, it will attract the elite of the pro cycling world to its start-line in the French capital. In homage to the big event and the city of Nice, Santini has launched a brand-new capsule collection. Its jersey, bib shorts and accessories feature a mix of images and colors inspired by the legendary Promenade des Anglais, the signature blue of the sea that laps the city’s iconic beaches, and the yellow of the umbrellas that dot the latter.

“We chose blue to reference the work of Henri Matisse who lived in Nice for over three decades” – explained Santini’s Creative Director Fergus Niland“It’s a shade that featured in his “Blue Nude” series of paintings and is now the main color in the Santini capsule collection.”

The collection comprises a jersey, gilet, bib shorts, base layer top and accessories.

The short-sleeve jersey is made from ultralight Silkiss Sahara mesh fabric, the perfect choice for even the hottest days, and also has an elastic silicone gripper band on the lower hem to keep it gently but firmly in place right throughout the wearer’s time in the saddle. Its sleeve ends have a soft elastic finish and there is a long centre zip too. Santini also suggests popping the color-coordinated windproof gilet over the jersey on downhill stretches.

The bib shorts are made from gently compressive Thunderbike Power fabric and include Santini’s GITevo pad with a gel core which gradually absorbs impacts to guarantee the ultimate comfort even on long cycles. Featuring a vibrant pattern inspired by a bird’s eye view of Nice’s bright yellow beach umbrellas, the sleeveless base layer jersey is made from ultralight micromesh. A selection of coordinating accessories – cap, gloves and socks all inspired by the La Course au Soleil – complete the Paris-Nice look!

This new capsule collection is a further addition to the Santini’s partnership agreement with A.S.O. which also spans the supply of the leader jerseys for Paris-Nice and the Tour de France, and the creation of capsule collections dedicated to the other A.S.O. races.

The Paris-Nice capsule collection will be available from www.santinicycling.com from February 28th, from select cycling stores worldwide as well as in the Paris-Nice village in Nice, place Masséna, on March 11th, 12th and 13th.
