MTB Legend ‘R-Canine’ Writes Ode to Hometown Mountain Trails

Bikes, parks, trails, friends, family — one rider looks back on the things that have made him who he is.

This short, California-made film tells the story of how a small beach town shaped Ryan “R-Dog” Howard into the mountain bike rider he is today.

“Hailing from Aptos, California, Ryan ‘R-Dog’ Howard grew up in a mecca of mountain biking, with some of the best riding that California has to offer,” teased the film. “Bikes have taken him all over the world, but he always comes back home to the mountains of Aptos with a smile on his face.”

When he’s not throwing big tricks, attempting big sends, or chasing fame at the likes of Red Bull Rampage or the Crankworx Whip-Off, R-Dog is most likely cruising close to home.

This film isn’t just about Howard and why he likes to bike. It throws back to the simpler things that got him started, like that dirt lot where friends built a pump track and jumps — where his town’s bike-lovers gathered.
